Flashback
Flashback after flashback through my mind,
Take me through the past three years in time.
We had met at the age of seventeen,
A place and time I was caught so in between.
You had been my knight in shining armour,
The days grew shorter but they had felt warmer,
That first night you lent me your sweater –
Hand in hand, I had never felt better.
Two days later, you asked me to go steady,
Though it was clear we both knew the answer already.
The stakes were high and the sea was stormy,
But there was nothing more I wanted than this story.
Follow it through to the third of March,
We had stood under the Golden Gate Bridge arch,
You told me you had never felt this way before,
And that you’d never leave me, this you swore.
But by the time that we were through,
I forgot who I was and lost all to turn to.
You had shown me the brightest possibilities,
But I was blinded by the numerous realities.
And now, I don’t know what to ask myself,
There’s nothing left to say but farewell.
Autumn’s come and autumn’s gone -
Still feels like there’s just no moving on.
