Let Go
You said the sky was ours,
So sit here and count the stars,
Run your fingertips over scars,
And listen to the faraway cars.
Don’t listen to anyone else, you say –
Just feel your body against this quay,
Tomorrow will be a brand new day,
But in this moment, we can get away.
But somehow, today became tomorrow,
And I can’t just go with the flow.
I thought things would change slow,
But that theory’s been exposed long ago.
Should I have kept my distance –?
Followed the path of least resistance,
Maybe if I had ignored the persistence,
I wouldn’t be in this coexistence.
Is it my own fault I fell so hard?
If only I had kept up my guard,
These walls wouldn’t have been marred,
And now I’m the one that’s scarred.
People tell you to take chances,
But not the risks of such advances.
Only after you’ve danced the dances,
Do you feel the pain of first glances.
Sometimes it’s better to just never know.
And now, it’s time to let go.
No, really – the time has come to let go.
Even so, the stars will still be counted from down below.
