Solitaire
Innocent and heedless not long ago,
We followed the beating of fireflies;
Questioned how they burn and glow,
Now nothing but truth in these lies.
Touch the breeze through the smoke;
Watch the tilt of reflective power;
The hand strikes the twelfth note
At the top of the grand tower.
You signalled my time was up,
I lost all reason to pretend;
Drain back that scarlet cup;
It’s all the same in the end.
Smell of rain and solitaire
Take us to the beginning;
An all-consuming love affair,
This room’s no longer spinning.
We followed the beating of fireflies;
Questioned how they burn and glow,
Now nothing but truth in these lies.
Touch the breeze through the smoke;
Watch the tilt of reflective power;
The hand strikes the twelfth note
At the top of the grand tower.
You signalled my time was up,
I lost all reason to pretend;
Drain back that scarlet cup;
It’s all the same in the end.
Smell of rain and solitaire
Take us to the beginning;
An all-consuming love affair,
This room’s no longer spinning.
